Last month, Castell Nedd Chess Club held an online charity event for Welsh Women’s Aid. It was held in honour of Tyrone O’Sullivan, the Welsh national hero who saved Tower Colliery, who sadly passed away in May. In a weekend arena match, members met up to fight it out through chess.com, battling to see who could achieve the most points. In the final minutes it was all down to a fast-paced game between Club Champion, Steven Smith and software developer, Andrew Davies. With only five minutes each on the clock, a speedy game decided that the former player should come out on top. Thank you to all those who took part and donated, allowing £115 to be raised and used to aid women throughout Wales.
