Open to any FIDE registered member of the Welsh Chess Union or other National Body
MAJOR & MINOR SECTIONS
All players in the Major Event must be registered with the Welsh Chess Union or their respective national body.
If you are playing in the Open Section you must ensure you have a FIDE ID number before entering the tournament. To do this you will need to contact your National Federation.

Round 1 – Friday 17th November 6.30 p.m.
Round 2 – Saturday 18th November 9.30 a.m.
Round 3 – Saturday 18th November 2.45 p.m.
Round 4 – Sunday 19th November 9.30 a.m.
Round 5 – Sunday 19th November 2.45 p.m.
Prizes and Entry Fees
OPEN Entry fee £25
Prizes 1st £200; 2nd £75; 3rd £50
A grading prize will be awarded at under 2000
MAJOR (Under 1850) Entry fee £22
Prizes 1st £150; 2nd £70; 3rd £35
A grading prize will be awarded at under 1650
MINOR (Under 1500) Entry fee £20
Prizes 1st £120; 2nd £60; 3rd £30
A grading prize will be awarded at under 1300
CONGRESS RULES
Rates of play
All moves in 90 minutes, with 30 seconds cumulative increment for each move starting from the first move.
Bye
Players may claim a ½ point bye in any of the first four rounds
provided it is requested with entry.
Withdrawals
Regrettably refunds will not be considered until the cost
of overheads are met.
Exclusions
The organizers reserve the right to exclude or transfer
entries.
Prizes
Only the highest prizes will be awarded to players eligible for more than 1 prize. Organizers reserve the right to adjust prize levels depending on the level of entry.
Late arrivals
Will be allowed 30 minutes in all rounds and then defaulted.
Appeals
Any Appeal against an arbiter’s decision must be made within 30 minutes of the original decision and accompanied by a deposit of £40 which will only be returned if the appeal is upheld. The decision of the Chief Arbiter (or Deputy Chief Arbiter if the Chief Arbiter made the original decision) is final and cannot be appealed.
Grading
In the Open section the November 2017 FIDE Rating List will be used together with the Summer 2017 WCU, ECF and other national lists.
For Major and Minor sections the Summer 2017 WCU, ECF and other national lists will be used.
Ungraded players must consult the congress secretary before entering the Major or Minor section.
