The West Wales Individual Championship is open to all registered members of the West Wales Chess League. It is a five round Swiss Tournament so all entrants get to play five games. The schedule is given below.

In this type of tournament players are listed in grading order. The top half is then paired with the bottom half. For instance, if there are twenty players number 1 is paired with number 11, number 2 is paired with number 12 and so on. Win, lose or draw, all players proceed to the next round where winners are pitted against winners, losers are pitted against losers and so on. In subsequent rounds, players face opponents with the same (or almost the same) score. No player is paired up against the same opponent twice and if possible the rules also try to ensure that each player plays an equal number of games with white and black.

The event is being organised by June Evans and if you want to enter just let her know.

Ian Eustis will be controlling the tournament.

The entry fee is £5 and all the entry fees plus £20 from the League will go towards prizes (including grading prizes), the number and value of which will be dependent on entries. In addition the League is providing a £50 first prize to the winner who will also hold the E.J. Clarke Trophy for a year.
